Moseley Mini and Junior Festival - 4 October 2015

Under 8’s
In their first tournament with the new rules, the under 8's narrowly missed out on the plate final based on tries conceded. It was a tremendous display and a fantastic way to kick off the season!

Under 9's
Big weekend for everyone involved in the Under 9’s for coaches and parents alike. With one team booked to play Kidderminster for our first competitive rugby game with full on tackling, we had another team committed to the Moseley Tournament – the latter with some trepidation, not because of the lack of pre-season training or the boys’ lack of technique for the tackle, but just the coaches not wanting to push the boys too hard too early!

So off to Moseley we went, with a mixed ability squad of 10, to see where we were in comparison to our rugby neighbours and other teams alike. Well the result, an epic performance across the board, playing some fantastic rugby and contributions from all involved. Even one of the newest recruits, Jani, whose family have just recently moved to the Stourton area from France. We truly have our very own Serge Bentsen, speaking very little English, but with a ferocious appetite for the tackle and running with the ball.

We started off our first games and although a little nervous, the tackles and link up play quickly became the brand of rugby for the tournament. This passion and conviction never wavered. Winning 3 out of 4 pool matches - beating Lichfield, Bournville, Moseley and narrowly losing to an always strong Droitwich side, this left us 2nd in the table and a 3rd place plate play-off match with the host Moseley. Well again, the boys did not disappoint and went about their business moving the ball with vision and tackling strong. We became convincing winners finishing the game Stourbridge 6 – Moseley 3.

Congratulations Under 9’s - great steps have been made and here’s to an exciting season.

Under 11’s
Stourbridge U11s took 16 players to play at their first competitive outing this season, with lots of new laws and skills to be aware of. This was a great test to see if all of the training had paid off.

Stourbridge U11s were fortunate enough to have 3 new players in the squad, 2 of which hadn’t played a competitive game before. The boys played 5 group games, in which they were able to put all of their training and new skills to use.The new squad members integrated superbly into the team and all played with desire and courage for their first competitive outing.

Following a characteristically slow start by the boys, they triumphed in all their games, only conceding 1 try to finish top of pool A, which set up a final against Droitwich who finished top of pool B. This was by far the toughest game of the day, with both teams giving 100% from the start. Stourbridge showed fantastic team spirit and support play. In the end, Stourbridge were just too strong in the tackle, showing ferocious defending to thwart the many Droitwich attacks.
Final score

Stourbridge 2 Droitwich 0

Well done boys! The coaches and parents are all very proud of your achievement; you showed great teamwork and sportsmanship.
