The idea for an Under 21s fixture during the Christmas break was originally put forward back in the Summer, with Veseyans agreeing to put a squad together to travel to Stourton Park. Unfortunately, with less than a fortnight to go, Veseyans had to pull out, but Dudley Kingswinford agreed to step in.

Having lost all 3 of the Boxing Day fixtures at DK only a few days before, this was always going to be a tough fixture for the Stourbridge squad. Despite running out 51-5 winners against our old rivals, the game was far closer and more entertaining than the scoreline suggests.

We were treated to four pulsating 30 minute quarters, allowing both teams to ring the changes throughout the game with their 30 man strong squads.

Between the 22s, this was a hard-fought contest with both teams performing well, working through the phases and retaining possession for long periods. It was only Stour's more dogged, tireless defence in front of their own try line and more clinical finishing inside the opposition 22 that made the difference on the day.

A 250 strong crowd from both Clubs cheered their teams on and the idea has been hailed a great success, allowing young talent from First to Colts XVs at both Clubs the opportunity to play together and giving the younger players an ideal opportunity to get more experience at a higher level of rugby. We hope that more Under 21s games can be arranged in the future - WATCH THIS SPACE!
