Stourbridge Under 13s at Barkers Butts Junior Festival
Sunday 22 April 2018
As the season draws to a close the Under 13s made possibly their longest trek yet for a fixture in the strange hinterland that is the other side of the M42.
The Coventry club provided good hospitality, including a splendid array of barbecued and roasted meat products, while the weather dished up every type of conditions apart from snow.
While some of us don't go that far on our holidays, the boys travelled well and were in good form from the start for the first of their three matches.
The action began with a tough game against Old Laurentians which tested the boys’ defensive skills and determination to the maximum. They stood firm and thanks to some great tackling and passing got the win against a team who would later demolish the hosts.
Next up was Barkers Butts and, without a break, perhaps our boys were feeling the effects of their efforts in the first game but they kept their composure and were only just second best.
They were however refreshed for their final game against Earlsdon and despite their opponents fielding a team of quick attacking players.
Stourbridge again gave 100 per cent and showed their skills in moving the ball along the line, kicking and reading the game to secure win.
The day ended with smiles all round and once again the U13s were a credit to Stourbridge RFC.
