Catching Session This Week

After a couple of weeks off due to the weather, it was good to get back to training and very nice to see nearly 30 micros this week which included 3 new micros; a warm welcome to Sid, Oliver and Ethan.

During this week’s session, we were concentrating on ball work which included receiving the pass on the run, running with the ball and shouting when ready to receive the pass; pass the parcel went particularly well this week which is very encouraging for later seasons when the micros develop passing left and right. The ever-popular Octopus game was back and from now on, we are looking to use micros only as the Octopus to encourage teamwork and communication; this week we asked Quinn to organise the Octopus and decide how they would go about tagging the runners which worked very well suggesting splitting into 2 at the latter stages to increase the chances of tagging.

With the listening cup this week, we chose Riley partly down to his great listening this week but also down to him going out of his way to help one of the new micros during the Octopus game; teamwork is one of the fundamentals of rugby and something we try to emphasise every week so it’s great to see micros like Riley demonstrating this in practice.

The second cup this week was renamed the “yes” cup which was awarded to Henry for consistent shouts of yes when he wanted to receive the ball; again, this is something that will help the micros in later years.

Well done to both Riley and Henry.
