All about defence

The micro’s welcomed a new player this week; Alejandro who seemed to really enjoy the session. Welcome to SFRC! This week the micro’s concentrated on spatial awareness which included tagging the coaches and working with the pads to push the coaches back; great ball work was on show this week so well done to all. The micros coaches awarded three certificates this week to Leo, Harry and Alejandro (bottom in the picture) for all having a great session with big smiles on their faces.

This week the U6’s concentrated on defence with a new drill that helped them understand staying in a line as an active defence; this will feature in the remaining sessions to reinforce this message. The emphasis is to following the attacking team to prevent space and therefore making it easier to tag the ball carrier; Rob and I found is very difficult to generate space once the teams became comfortable with the drill.

We awarded three certificates this week to Oliver, Rowan and Sebastian (top picture); Oliver has really developed over the recent months in both his catching and his tagging, Rowan is really starting to develop as an all-round player and we are particularly proud of his teamwork. Sebastian, much like Rowan, is really starting to become an all-round player showing great core skills and a wider understanding of both attack and defence. Well done to Oliver, Rowan and Sebastian.
