Fourth placed Tynedale make the 235 mile trip to Stourton Park knowing that a loss could see their hosts leap frog above them given just 3 points difference between the two teams.
After a slow start to the campaign, ‘Dale only managed one win out of five games, losing at home to Lucs and Fylde and away to Hull. Their other result shows a 34 all draw at home to Otley in spite of outscoring their opponents by six Trys to five! Prior to last weekend, their wins have been against Sedgley Park, Scunthorpe, Preston and Huddersfield.
Saturday’s game should prove to be a thrilling encounter between two, apparently well matched, sides. Both teams have won five games apiece with the visitors ahead courtesy of two draws. However, Stour lead the Try count 46:44 and, no doubt, Dan Rundle will be keen to improve upon that, against his North-East neighbours! Tynedale’s danger man looks to be Fly Half Jake Rodgers with a personal tally of 88 points this season!
Stour’s visit to Huddersfield last week is best forgotten whilst ‘Dale can count themselves fortunate in their fixture against Sheffield Tigers who were ahead until the 82nd minute. A converted Try was enough to edge the lead, capped only by a missed Tiger’s penalty straight from the restart and immediately followed by the final whistle!
The weather forecast is looking good with a dry day, gentle breeze and temperatures around 9 degrees. These should be great conditions for running rugby and, hopefully an entertaining game for all concerned. With the Lions travelling to Whitchurch, we hope to see a good crowd before Christmas shopping takes over people’s weekends!
