Grid Training This Week

This week with the micro’s was all about a game scenario and tagging; this was especially evident throughout the majority of the session which include some passing to each other and a lot of tagging. Each week, we see the micro’s core skills developing which will help them in more advanced games after the Christmas break. Given the weather, the cup (substituted for sweets this week) was awarded to the muddiest micro who turned out to be Archie (far right in the picture.) He certainly enjoyed the session and the sweets too.

It was grid based training this week for the U6’s with Shaun and Taine (thanks for helping out) running their version of Sharks Vs Pirates (which Shaun redesigned to incorporate a pass), Rob and Simon running Pass the Parcel and me running a game based grid. Coaches feedback was positive for all groups in all games and it gave a chance for the coaches to work with every player this week which is important. We were especially pleased to see the level of teamwork in defence in my grid and the level of communication noted by Shaun and Taine in their grid; especially pleasing was the catching and passing in Rob/Simons grid as it’s one of the most difficult games for the U6’s as it doesn’t involve running!

We had one cup this week and then the teamwork sweets which were won by Brandon (left), Riley (centre) and Jack J (right); collectively known as the Thunder Buddies. Brandon was very good in my grid with his listening, particularly to other U6’s in relation to where to start and set the defensive lines. Riley and Jack J were awarded the teamwork sweets for their excellent communication and defence in Sharks vs Pirates. Well done to the Thunder Buddies and Archie.
