Quick ball moved wide saw winger Josh Trinham cross in the corner early on, followed soon after by no.8 Connor Nicholls after a powerful surge by the Stour pack saw the hosts cough up their own short-range scrum feed. Fullback Tom Mitchell landed both difficult conversions and then extended the lead with a penalty. With the halftime whistle imminent outside half Chris Scott’s neat crossfield kick secured the 3rd try when it found veteran winger Nathan Bressington clear in Huddersfield’s in-goal.
The hosts fought back with a protracted 2nd half siege of the Stour goal line, but despite the loss of Bressington to the sin bin the well organised Stour defences held firm. Rare forays to the hosts’ 22 proved fruitless until a break-out saw the hosts’ fullback Lewis Workman yellow carded when Trinham was taken out chasing a kick ahead. Stour pressed the attack and with less than 5min to go were awarded a short range scrum. With the fresh legs of replacement loosehead Adam Sturdy leading the drive Stour secured the bonus point with a penalty try award after the hosts’ pack disintegrated.
With the job seemingly done Stour lost focus, errors handing Huddersfield two breakaway tries in the dying minutes, but it was too little too late for the hosts and Stour headed for the M1 with all 5 league points.
