150th Anniversary Game Week – Saturday 31st October

Stourbridge Rugby Club is preparing for a very special weekend as we celebrate our 150th anniversary, with three senior sides in action and a programme of celebrations planned at Stourton Park.

Our First XV welcome Moseley Oak in what promises to be a fitting fixture for this historic occasion, while the Lions and Hoppers are both on the road.

First XV v Moseley Oak – Home, 3pm

Five wins from five have given our First XV an excellent start to the league season, and they return to Stourton Park on Saturday looking to maintain their unbeaten record.

The fixture has particular historical significance, with Moseley Oak believed to have been Stourbridge's opponents in the club's very first match back in 1876.

With 150 years of rugby to celebrate, we hope to see a fantastic turnout of members, supporters, former players and families to mark this important milestone in the club's history.

150th Anniversary Celebrations
Saturday is about much more than the rugby, with a number of activities planned to bring together the wider Stourbridge Rugby family.

The celebrations will begin with a special anniversary pre-match lunch, featuring a few surprises for guests.

Our Mini & Junior players will be invited to form a guard of honour as the First XV take to the field, and there will be sweets for all Mini & Junior players attending.

A special commemorative matchday programme has also been produced, featuring photographs, memories and stories from the club's 150-year history.

Following the match, we are hoping to gather as many people as possible for a huge club family photograph. Whether you are a current player, former player, coach, volunteer, member or supporter, we would love you to be included.

There will also be opportunities to look back at the club's history and share memories throughout the afternoon.

Final Call for Anniversary Lunch Bookings
Bookings for Saturday's special 150th anniversary pre-match lunch close at 8pm on Wednesday 28th October.

The lunch is priced at £26.50 per adult, with children's meals available for £12.

As with all our pre-match lunches, families are very welcome, and we would encourage members to bring their children along to enjoy the celebrations.

The menu includes pan-fried chicken supreme with chasseur sauce, hasselback potatoes and spring vegetables, with a Mediterranean vegetable tart available as the vegetarian option.

Dessert is a choice of lemon tart with cream or a selection of cheese.

Anyone wishing to attend must book before the 8pm deadline tonight, subject to remaining availability. Bookings can be made quickly and easily here

Lions v Newport (Salop) – Away, 3pm
Our Lions travel to Newport (Salop) on Saturday, looking to build on another encouraging performance against Burntwood last weekend.

Despite trailing 14–0 after half an hour in extremely difficult weather conditions, the Lions battled back to secure a 19–19 draw, showing considerable determination and improvement.

The side continues to make progress and will be hoping to turn those encouraging performances into a first league victory of the season.

Hoppers v Greyhound RFC – Away, 3pm
The Hoppers are also on their travels this weekend, heading to Greyhound RFC for a 3pm kick-off.

Following a hard-fought 24–12 defeat away to Ludlow 2s last Saturday, the Hoppers will be looking to bounce back and produce another competitive performance.

Saturday promises to be a memorable occasion as we celebrate the generations of players, volunteers, members and supporters who have helped shape Stourbridge Rugby Club over the past 150 years.

Whether you are joining us at Stourton Park for the anniversary celebrations or travelling to support the Lions or Hoppers, we hope you will be part of this special weekend.

We particularly encourage our Mini & Junior families to come along, take part in the guard of honour and join us for the club photograph after the match.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
