'Glazey'

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Malcolm, known as Glazey to his friends, died on the morning of Sunday 6 September, aged 81 years.

He passed away peacefully at Westley Court, with his children at his bedside, after living with illness for several years.

Malcolm was a First XV centre throughout the sixties and a regular for Worcestershire and Herefordshire; he played in the inaugural match against Moseley at the opening of the clubhouse in 1965.

In his time at Stourbridge RFC he was variously Membership Secretary, Social Secretary, Chairman of Selectors and Chairman of Rugby, as well as being Assistant Tour Manager on international Club tours to Canada (1977) and South Africa (1980). He was an Honorary Life Member of the Club.

Glazey was best mate of Club patriarch John Jeavons-Fellows who died in 2017. Together, JJ-F and MEG were both instrumental in the various stages of development of the facilities at Stourton Park, helping the Club generate funds to expand the clubhouse; leaving a legacy that we all enjoy to this day.

Malc will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Rhona, his son Matthew, daughter Emma, daughter in law Louise, and his grandchildren Ruby, Tabitha, Isabelle, and Jack.

Malcolm and Rhona received a card and personal message from The Queen to celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 13 August 2020.

Malcolm was most pleased, that despite sporting prowess skipping a generation, the love of sport has returned in his grandchildren! The Girls have yet to don their rugby boots, and favour other sports, however, Malcolm’s Grandson is proud to be a SRFC junior player.

Glazey’s good humour and unfailing kindness will be sorely missed by many.

We send our condolences to the family.

The funeral service will be held at Rowley Regis Crematorium at 2.30 pm on Friday 25 September. Due to the current restrictions surrounding funerals during this coronavirus pandemic, attendance is by invitation.
