Catching and ball work this week

It was catching this week with the U6s which included the first attempts of walking/running as a line and passing down the line; it was safe to say that we had an interesting session! This is also the most difficult session to teach as it often involves something that young children find it hard to do: stand still. With cross the ocean, where we introduced the concept of the line, we had some good successes and some where we need to work with the players on a smaller group basis to ensure they feel comfortable with the delivering and receiving of the pass. For the most part we had a good level of passing and receiving which gives us lots to work on in a positive light.

The relay was especially pleasing this session, incorporating multiple runners dodging each other and their poles; multiple balls in play as well as passing, I think it was fair to say that this was the best game in this session as they seem much happier when running around.

In the micros this week with special guest coach Joe, they concentrated on tagging and dodging defenders in a new version of rob the nest. The posts were used again and this time Freddie (left) won the cup for some excellent kicking and Stanley won the teamwork cup largely based around thinking of his teammates. Well done to both.

In the U6s we had the trio of cups again and congratulations to Jack R, Oscar and Louie who won the listening, awesome and teamwork cups respectively. Jack has been going from strength to strength this season and really developing in attentiveness in game, Oscar is just a joy to coach every week and a player who is consistently brilliant week in week out and Louie is rapidly developing a sense of leadership and helpfulness to his team.

Well done everyone.
