Back at home this week

This week’s session was the last this season before the annual grown-ups vs micros fun session to round the season off. This was an intensive session based largely on tagging, 2 vs 1 scenarios and defending which included updating well-known games and revisiting some older games that are particular favourites of the micros.

Given that the temperature this week was not in our favour, it was pleasing to see the attentiveness and concentration from all of the group; with the redesign of rob the nest to include tagging and defending, we introduced to the micros what a game could look like. It also helped the coaches to see how micros defended the nest with particular reference to focussing on the attacker; over the course of next season, we’ll look to coach them to be aware of all the opposing players, and not just the ball carrier. Over the course of this game and sharks vs pirates, it was very pleasing to see every micro dodging and virtually every micro getting a tag which is great to see.

The listening cup was won by Rowan this week, Rowans come on leaps and bounds over the course of the year in all aspects of his play; as mentioned previously he is one of the most consistent taggers we have and his skills in both dodging and spatial awareness have evolved also. Well done to Rowan.

Lois won the other cup this week and it was great to see her back after a period of absence; Lois formed a very strong defensive partnership with Louie in sharks vs pirates and every time she joins us, she seems to pick things up with ease. Congratulations Lois.
