Stourbridge RFC to compete in virtual Strava challenge with Bournville RFC

User 13732877 Jan 2021 - 15:23

The ‘Community Group Midlands Cup’ is up for grabs for each rugby community

Stourbridge RFC and friendly North Midlands rivals Bournville RFC will compete for some virtual silverware and have a chance to get active during lockdown. The challenge will take place over the 3-week period from Saturday 9th January until Saturday 30th January.

The ‘Community Group Midlands Cup’ will see players, members, supporters, staff and the wider local community of each club work together to represent their club using the fitness app.

Participants have been asked to record their walks, runs or wheelchair pushes on the Strava app to gain the biggest total combined distance for their club. The club which finishes the 3-week period with the biggest total distance covered will be crowned the Community Group Midlands Cup champions. It's worth participants noting that any cycling efforts will not be counted to the club totals! All exercise done should follow Government guidance at the time.

Chad Thorne, Head of Community at Stourbridge RFC, said: “In unprecedented times, it’s a little something that as a club we can get involved in and try to bring together the community feel back to Stourbridge rugby club. Whilst being active and staying healthy. This opportunity is open to all sections of the rugby club take part, from M&Js, supporters, families, senior sides and everyone else in between.”

Both clubs have created clubs on Strava, which participants will need to join for their activities to count towards the overall totals.

To take part, once you have downloaded the Strava app and created a free account, you will need to go to ‘Explore’, ‘Clubs’ and then search for either ‘Bournville RFC’ or ‘Stourbridge Rugby’.

We will post weekly updates and the winners will be revealed on Monday, 1st February.

What do you have to do?
Please make sure you stick to the government guidelines on exercise and physical activity. So, plan some nice family walks, take the dog for that extra bit of exercise, dust off your running shoes and complete a 5k or meet up with one other person for a stroll and a catch-up. The beauty of this is that every little bit of mileage will help the club’s total. Can you share it on your socials?
