Exciting new project adds to Stourbridge RFC social rugby offering

Stourbridge RFC is delighted to announce that the Club has secured funding from the National Lottery to host sessions of walking rugby.

Walking rugby is a simplified version of rugby, suitable for all ages, abilities and genders.
It is a competitive passing game, ideal for ex-players, injured and rehabilitating current players and those interested in trying the sport without any prior experience.

Sessions will have an emphasis on keeping fit, socialising and having fun, refreshments will be provided too.

We will announce the session dates in due course;

Chad Thorne Head of Community Rugby commented: “Firstly thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund for helping out with getting this project off the ground. This is a great opportunity to put the boots back on and be active without running. It’s also a great way to meet new people and maybe an opportunity to catch up with some old friends, playing a ball game again and even reliving some of the cherished memories. Walking rugby also provides an introduction for people who have never played rugby before and it’s a great way to keep fit."

WALKING RUGBY – basics

• No running
• No contact – similar to ‘touch rugby’ rules – two hands on shorts qualifies as a tackle.
• No Mauls, rucks or lineouts
• Scrummaging – max three players per team standing position and non-contested
• Passing backwards or lateral – offside rules apply
• Scoring a try requires no bending – you walk across the try line ball in hand.
