Match Report: Stourbridge Lions 24 – Newport Salop IIs 47
Venue: Stourton Park
Date: Saturday, 8th November 2025
Stourbridge Lions fell to a 24–47 defeat against Newport Salop in a game that started with promise but unraveled in the second half.
The Lions were tactically sound in the opening forty minutes, executing their game plan with precision and intensity. Tries from Rob Gazzard, Jason Hampton, and George Westwood (who crossed twice) gave the home side a bonus point and they led 19–14 lead at the break. James Westwood added two conversions to cap off a strong first-half performance from the Lions.
However, the second half told a different story. Stourbridge struggled to maintain their composure, with poor decision-making and lapses in defensive structure allowing Newport Salop to seize control. The Lions found themselves under increasing pressure, unable to stem the tide as Newport ran in multiple unanswered tries to secure a convincing win.
Despite the loss, the first-half display showed glimpses of what Stourbridge are capable of when they stick to their systems. They'll need to regroup and address the defensive frailties and decision-making issues that cost them dearly after the interval. Next match is on the 22nd of November, again at home v Newcastle Staffs.

Match Report: Stourbridge Panthers Women 5 - Clee Hill Women 22
Venue: Stourton Park
Date: Sunday 9th November 2025
After both Stourbridge Panthers and Clee Hill Women observed a two-minute silence to mark and respect Remembrance Sunday, the game kicked off in mild conditions with only a slight breeze.
Clee Hill were the first to get points on the board with an unconverted try. Throughout the match, the Panthers showed fantastic defensive organisation, limiting the number of attacking phases Clee Hill were able to build. In attack, Stourbridge strung together some excellent passages of play — among the best they’ve produced this season — but the final execution just didn’t go their way, with knock-ons, interceptions, or turnovers at the ruck halting their momentum.
Both sides found the line-out challenging, with several throws deemed not straight — much to the confusion of players and spectators alike!
Two injuries for the Panthers saw Mia Mads and Kelsey Tolley leave the field, which led to head coach Amy Wigley making her first on-field appearance of the season due to a limited bench & Lowri Roberts a “home grown” player from the clubs Pumas section making her league debut while home for the weekend from Cardiff university.
Despite the disruptions, Jasmin “Jimmy” Faulkner- Harper powered over the line to score the Panthers’ only try of the afternoon.
Once again, several players stepped up to play out of position to ensure the team could see out the match. The final score of Stourbridge Panthers 5 – Clee Hill 22 doesn’t truly reflect how close and competitive the game was.
Panthers player of the match & also voted by the opposition was Lauren Taylor who showed immense power & stamina in both attack and defence.
It was a pleasure to host Clee Hill — a fantastic group of players, coaches, and supporters — and the Panthers look forward to the return fixture away at Clee Hill in February.

Match Report: Colts vs Sutton Coldfield U18's 39-12
Venue: Stourton Park
Date: Sunday 9th November 2025
We welcomed Sutton to Stourton Park on Sunday with some trepidation, our squad being depleted again, following a tough school fixture on the Saturday, and many players with an eye on their National Cup fixture this Tuesday.
However our fears were blown away in the first 15 minutes of an impressive ‘coming of age’ performance by a very young colts team.
With a sprinkling of seniors leading the way, with their communication, organisation and physicality, our junior colts stepped up and showed what huge strides they’ve made over the last few months.
Our defensive line speed and discipline shut down Suttons attacks early, our young front row held its own, and as usual Charlie and Bruce disrupted the opposition line out ball. In attack, our ball retention and ruck speed gave our big carriers and backs opportunities to punch holes in Suttons defence, and we went in at half time 27-0 up, following tries from Theo, Archie, Charlie H, Charlie L, and Harry R.
The second half saw us go off the boil, as we rotated players and lost focus. After conceding 2 tries, we woke up again, sterling defence and strong carrying by Sam, Joe and Louie helping us dominate territory, with Rudi’s boot and thumping tackles keeping us at the right end of the pitch.
2 late tries from Theo, in another impressive performance, secured the victory for us.
We travel to Wolverhampton on Sunday looking to climb to second in the league.
Thanks
Chris
