Spartans 26 - Stourbridge 2nd XV 5

Stourbridge Lions missed a crucial opportunity in their battle to avoid a potential relegation place as they fell 26–5 to a stubborn Spartans side. In a match carrying significant weight at the bottom end of the table, Stour dominated territory in the opening half but were left frustrated by an inability to convert pressure into points.

The Lions were denied on three occasions in the first half, being held up over the Spartans line despite sustained periods camped deep in the opposition 22. While Stour controlled possession and played much of the rugby, Spartans’ defensive resilience proved decisive.

The hosts tackled ferociously, competed strongly at the breakdown, and were repeatedly rewarded with key turnovers. Spartans were also well served by a powerful, abrasive inside centre who made regular gain-line breaks and helped swing momentum back their way when under pressure.

Ollie Lynch finished a well-worked move, breaking clear after an initial incision from Ethan Gilbert. James Westwood added the conversion to provide hope of a losing bonus point, but it wasn't to be a Spartans scored again.

With Aston also picking up a win elsewhere, the result leaves Stourbridge Lions facing an uphill struggle to finish outside the bottom three. Time is running out, and the Lions now find themselves firmly at risk of relegation as they look ahead to a key fortnight.
