Zero Tolerance on Match Official Abuse

Zero Tolerance on Match Official Abuse

Anna Smith24 Oct - 15:20

We’re taking a stand to protect officials and uphold rugby values.

Please read a statement from our Director of Rugby; Neil Mitchell regarding match official abuse.

We would like to reiterate that Stourbridge Rugby club will not be tolerate match official abuse under any circumstances.

If any incidents are reported to North Midlands Disciplinary, the individual concerned - whether a parent, player, or coach - will receive an IMMEDIATE BAN from attending the club for the remainder of the season.

Referee Interaction Protocol

To avoid any misunderstanding, please note the following:

• Only the head coach before the game and the team captain during the game may speak with the referee.

No player, coach, or parent should approach or challenge the referee at half-time or after the match for any reason.

• Any form of remonstration, abuse, or criticism directed at officials is considered a disciplinary offence.

How to Raise Concerns Properly

If you believe there has been an issue with officiating:

1. Submit a written report to Mitch directly, including any witness statements.

2. Mitch will ensure the matter is addressed swiftly and appropriately with the relevant bodies.

3. Under no circumstances should referees be engaged directly by players, coaches, or parents.

4. All Cup games will be recorded by VEO in future.

Our club’s reputation, culture, and future success depend on respect - for each other, for our opponents, and for the officials who make the game possible. I trust this message is fully understood and taken seriously.

Yours in rugby,

Neil Mitchell
Director of Rugby
