On Sunday 20th January, Stourbridge Girls (The Pumas) Under 18s, 15s, 13s & 11s travelled to Bournville's Pitch Up & Play at their new ground, Avery Fields.
They were joined by Bournville, DK, Veseyans, Kidderminster, Aston OE and Birmingham Exiles. With 24 Girls, Stourbridge fielded the biggest squad on the day and in the Under 15s and Under 13s events played as a full Stourbridge team. Sadly, there were too few Under 18s for meaningful games, so they had a combined training session run by Jason Brogan of Birmingham Exiles. Unfortunately, his own daughter broke her ankle in the session - we all wish her a speedy recovery.
The Under 15s played 3 games, winning all 3. Win or lose, it was mainly the attitude of our Girls that stood out. They performed the basic skills well, offloaded in the tackle, dominated the rucks and tackled ferociously - you would expect nothing less from a Puma! Many thanks to the Aston OE girl who stepped in when one of our own players had to go off with a sprained ankle.
The Under 13s played 2 games, drawing one and narrowly losing the other one. Again, the Stour Girls stood out, performing all the basics they'd been taught brilliantly.
All the teams came off the pitch with smiles on their faces, win, lose or draw - a real credit to the Club, their coaches and parents.
A big thank you to Bournville RFC who provided a great event.
