Unfortunately, our usual eloquent Scribbler, Richard Stanley, wasn't available to write this week's report. As I was supervising my team of Ball Girls, I didn't have a chance to make any notes - so apologies for a very sketchy report.
From the kick-off it looked as though it was going to be a hard day at the office for the home side, with Chester gaining early possession, they crashed over in the corner to begin a 28 minute period of 33 unanswered points.
Staring down the barrel of a big defeat, Stour rallied and on 34 minutes, George Morgan scored to lead the way. Chester failed to score again and in the remaining 46 minutes of the match, Stour were by far the better team. However the damage was already done and the 27 points Stour scored, wasn't enough to turn it into a win. Two bonus points were secured in what was a gripping game - in the end!
My Man of the Match would have to be the whole squad. To be facing such a big deficit and to come back they way they did, showed fantastic team spirit and resolve. I would say however, that performances on the pitch should be a Club effort and not just down to the players themselves. It wasn't until the XV on the pitch had started to give us belief that a win was possible, that we, as a Club started to get behind them and build the atmosphere to what it should have been all along. We can be that 16th, 17th, 18th.... and so on man. We are just as capable of lifting a game as the players themselves.
Our next home match is the Christmas fixture against our closest neighbours, Luctonians on Saturday 21st December 2019 with a 2:00pm kick-off. Let's make it Fortress Stourton Park once again for the players and the Club.
Sketchy match report by Mark Denison, brilliant photos by Ceri Davies yet again
