Stourbridge under 10s took two teams for a tough away day fixture at Bromsgrove Rugby Club on October 12.
The Finstall Road club also had two teams for the fixture, which meant plenty of matches for the boys, and it soon became clear the teams were evenly matched.
Both Stourbridge sides put their rucking and mauling training to good effect to win the ball against well organised Bromsgrove teams who were no pushovers.
Coach Spencer said: “All the games we played were tight, and I think our togetherness and team spirit pulled us through at times. We were probably first to rucks and mauls and that was the difference between the two sides”.
A half-time chat about passing also brought rewards, Coach Spencer added: “We said if we offloaded we would score tries and that is indeed what happened.”
Coach Mab paid particular tribute to the Stourbridge defensive play. He said “I was really pleased with contesting the rucks, support play, running at pace, I think they came on leaps and bounds through each match and towards the end it was fantastic to see them doing that really quite well and seeing the success and rewards from that.
“I was really happy with how they managed to keep Bromsgrove players up off the floor, keeping them in the maul for five seconds and turning the ball over, I was really pleased to see them do that on a regular basis.”
