Stourbridge U10s vs Bromyard U10s
Sunday 22 February 2015
Tough conditions caused problems for both squads during a visit to Stourton Park by Bromyard RFC.
The Herefordshire club sent a large squad to Stourbridge, which meant simultaneous matches for two teams from each club following a joint warm up session to demonstrate true rugby camaraderie between all the players.
The lads battled through the games, despite freezing temperatures, plus a biting wind and rain that turned to sleet as the morning wore on.
Coach Dennis said: “Some of our lads suffered quite badly because of the cold and were slow to start in both matches. They got progressively better and we were competitive a lot more as the games wore on.
Our passing of the ball was good, tackling was better – lower.
We have got this phobia, when the ball is free, of picking it up off the floor but that apart, given the conditions, it was wholehearted and played in a really good spirit throughout, I think the fact we trained early on as a mixed group helped.
Some tackles were flying in, some really hard tackles, but the lads got up and got on with the game, and that was credit to them”.
He added there were some learning points for coaches to take away from the matches, including getting players to run on to the ball much quicker from scrums and moving the ball quicker.
He said: “When we did that we got a couple of tries, when we didn’t do it they were able to run through us.
Overall, given the conditions, it was a really good morning’s rugby".
Well played all!
