Stourbridge Under 9s vs Newport
Stourbridge Under 9s took a full squad to Chaddesley Corbett for a tough away fixture against Shropshire club Newport.
All the players got a good run out with two Stourbridge teams playing matches all morning against strong opposition.
Stourbridge and Newport both played well to produce some of the best matches of the season so far.
Lead coach Spencer said: “Both sides gave everything and conceded nothing and that made for a real entertaining game. Newport are a good side and amongst the best we have played, it was an enjoyable day.”
Coach Spencer added Stourbridge’s tackling was a stand out feature of the performance and, although sometimes the play was quite physical, he also saw some good running rugby and movement of the ball to wide areas of the pitch.
He said tackling would continue to be a key part of training sessions and coaches would be encouraging players to pass well to take advantage of the quick runners in the team.
He said: “We need to still work on the tackling and the expansive game – we have got some fast players but we need to get that ball out wide to them.”
