Fantastic Rugby and the weather wasn't too bad either!

What an absolutely fantastic day!

We arrived bright and early Sunday morning for the annual U10's North Midland Cup at Kidderminster Carolians RFC with high hopes and we were not disappointed...

On the day, the SRFC U10's fielded 2 mixed ability teams with the only target being to have a really fun day. The morning commenced with a round-robin style 5-group tournament to establish positions for a matched round-robin in the afternoon.

Team 1 were up against Moseley first and got strong start with a 3-0 win, this was followed by matches against Bournville (2-2), Wolverhampton (5-1) and Droitwich (1-1). These great results placed them 3rd in their group for the afternoon session.

Team 2 started their day off slowly with a 1-0 win against Shrewsbury but really found their footing scoring 4-0 against Moseley followed by some really tight matches against Luctonians (1-0) and Sils (0-0). This put them 1st in their group with not a try conceded!

After a brief break for hotdogs supplied by our gracious hosts, the teams moved on to their similarly ranked matches.

Team 1 really pulled out all the stops that afternoon achieving wins against Luctonians (3-1), Dudley Kingswinford (4-0) and Kings Norton (3-1) and finished the day with hotly fought match with the second Luctonians team resulting in defeat of 1-3.

Team 2 had to really pull on their reserves during the afternoon matches to play the morning leaders from the other groups. Whilst they didn't win any of their afternoon matches, they didn't make them easy for the opposition achieving a 0-1 defeat by Ledbury, a 0-0 draw with Sils, 1-2 defeat by Bournville and finally a 1-1 draw against Kidderminster.

The coaches and myself were so proud of everyone for pulling together and achieving some great results against some tough teams and I think everyone could see how the skills the coaches have been working on and the emphasis on teamwork came together to give us some really great rugby.

Notes from our coaches:

Ed: I too would like to say how pleased I was with all the boy's attitude, approach and comittment to the games yesterday. I for one am feeling hugely positive about what we're creating and when teams compliment us on the style of rugby, then that says it all!

Paul B: a great day of rugby, all our guys stood tall against some tough competition. In most instances beat them to the ball in the breakdown, handling was awesome in games, and they kept their composure under intense pressure at times

Lets hope this performance and ethic from our players continues throughout the season, if it does, we'll be a squad to be admired (and reckoned with!)

Sarah
