A flying start to the season by the Under 11's

On Sunday 1st October, after a gloomy start to the day and some magnificent tent coordination by myself, Simon, Matt, and Dan; the Under 11's were gathered, willing and enthusiastic for their first match performance of the season and boy did they deliver!

For our first match of the day, we were up against Bournville. A squad we have met before and have always enjoyed playing for their sportsmanship and level of competition. They certainly held nothing back in their first match and they were ready to fight for a good result. Our boys met them valiantly and with a try by Cole, we were on the board! Bournville came back hard and our newly minted Full Back Max made their flankers life hell with some fantastic try saving tackles. They managed to score two tries against us but Charlie was willing and able to even that up to result in a 2-2 draw - what a great start!

Our second match pitched us against Kings Norton, again a well matched team who really put our boys through their paces but with some fantastic passing, manoeuvres and runs from our team, we were 3-0 up at half time thanks to tries from Rhys, Ben H and Tom B. The second half slowed with our boys resting on their laurels a little which gave Kings Norton the opportunity to put two tries down against us. Thankfully, the team realised their error and held them back to secure the 3-2 win.

After a bit of a rest (and some chips) our 3rd match was against Bridgnorth and boy did we have to work for this one. Both teams were really giving it their all in both defense and attack. We saw some fantastic charging from Jack Meakin, some brilliant aggression in the ruck and maul from Ollie, Maurice, and Ben G and some great attempts at try runs from Owen T but Bridgnorth fought back just as hard resulting in the first half ending with no score. The 2nd half commenced with a determined Stour side and after a genius kick and follow on run from Charlie, we were finally on the board! The boys secured their triumph by keeping Bridgnorth from scoring and after that match, they certainly deserved the rest before their fourth bout!

The penultimate match put us against the hosts and boy were Stour on fire in this game, the first half offered us tries by Tom B, Charlie and Owen T with Moseley managing to get a couple back by the time the whistle blew. There was no slowing down in the second half with some frankly fantastic footwork in the scrum from Hooker Cole resulting in more than one turnover. This gave us the opportunity for further tries from Tom B and Owen T and one from the opposition resulting in a 5-3 win for Stour. 4 down, 1 to go and the boys weren't slowing down at all!

We'd been lucky so far but the rain had started to make it's presence known by this point in the day so after a quick chat with their very accommodating coaches, we went straight in to our final game against Lichfield. Stour did not slow down once and after some really hard work and truly fantastic play, we were awarded with tries from Owen T, Rhys and Owen T again to secure a 3-0 win in our final match.

Myself and the coaches cannot express enough how proud we are of the entire teams performance yesterday, they truly took on board everything they have been taught and came together as one cohesive unit which resulted in really well deserved wins against some truly tough competitors.

On to Sils next week and may the hard work continue!
