The Stourbridge Grasshoppers, better known as the Hoppers, are our social rugby team, welcoming players of all ages and levels of experience.

The squad is a mix of experienced players, those returning to rugby after time away, younger players making the step into senior rugby and those completely new to the game.

The Hoppers compete in the North Midlands Merit Table, but the emphasis is firmly on enjoying rugby and making sure there is an opportunity for everyone to play.

During the 2025/26 season, 66 different players represented the Hoppers. The team completed every fixture, scored more than 500 points and finished second in the Merit Table. Where necessary, players were shared with opposition teams to ensure games could go ahead, reflecting the social rugby ethos of getting a good game played rather than focusing solely on the result.

Led by Captain Mike Steven and Coach Ryan Hadley, the Hoppers are a big part of the social side of Stourbridge Rugby Club, with a strong team spirit both on and off the pitch.

Whether you are an experienced player, returning to rugby, moving up from age-grade rugby or looking to play for the first time, new players are always welcome. Players who are interested in starting or returning to rugby, feel free to turn up at the Wednesday rugby training sessions (8pm-10pm).
